Cylinder liners in diesel engines are typically made from alloyed cast iron with a lamellar graphite structure, produced through centrifugal casting. Their primary function is to guide the piston and its rings, converting combustion energy into kinetic energy. To ensure optimal performance, the running surface of the cylinder liner must meet stringent tribological requirements. It needs to minimize friction between the piston rings to reduce internal engine friction losses. Additionally, the liner’s surface must retain lubricating oil to prevent mixed or solid friction, which could lead to severe issues like piston seizures or jamming.
As part of our comprehensive cylinder liner restoration process, we clean and conduct crack detection tests, ensuring the liner is honed back to the required cylindricity runout. Our services include re-honing the cylinder liner using advanced equipment such as the Delapenia Auto Stroker, which has a working capacity of 60 to 350mm in diameter with an 800mm stroke length. We are also equipped with the Chrismarine Hon X2, capable of handling larger jobs from 500mm to 1000mm in diameter with a stroke length of 4000mm.
For clients needing in-situ honing solutions, feel free to reach out to us to discuss how we can assist with your specific requirements.
We are also equipped with surface grinding machine from Chris-Marine for grinding of sealing surface between cyliner head and liners, and between cylinder liners and engine frame on medium bore diesel engines.
